Taskmaster

Little Hayley Cheesman and The Taskmaster, Erin McDaid, put a group of 5 LJMU Drama/Musical theatre students to the test as they attempt to complete a series of wacky challenges around the university. From painting in the dark, to serenading a stranger, we’ll see talent, creativity, and most importantly, comedy! With Cheesman as the umpire in each challenge and McDaid, the so-called ‘Taskmaster’, judging the work and handing out the points, one contestant will be crowned the Taskmaster Champion at the end of the show!!!

Script Reading and Q&A

A relaxed afternoon showcasing readings of some of the best work on script by two up and coming playwrights. There will be two scripts being read in full and performed by a cast made up of the best talent here at LJMU! Each performance will last approximately 40 minutes.

An Inspector Leaves, written by Emily Gregg, is a story inspired by JB Priestley An Inspector Calls, only in this version the Inspector leaves. We follow the Birling family, who are in a crisis as the children struggle with their own identities which don’t coincide with their parents' strong opinions and faith. Will they come out the other side?

Heysel, written by Cormac Lagan, is a story based on the 1985 stadium disaster in Brussels which took the lives of 39 football fans. We follow the account of those affected by the disaster back at home and in Belgium as they struggle to come to terms with the disaster and its consequences on their lives. The play is about looking back and asking questions about that day now they have had time to think and look more into justice and reflect on what could have been done differently.

This event will also include a Q&A afterwards by Emily and Cormac, where they will speak about their motivations around writing these scripts and where they hope to take their writings in the future.
