Cheese

Written by Lucy Andrews

"Every time I think about it, there’s this underlining blame, or excuse- I guess, that we are just students, but I don’t want to carry on believing that this is my fault, or something that I asked for".

Looking past the nights out and the laughs is the inner struggle every student has: finding themselves in a world that can really be so cruel. As the nights out and the laughs become something which is only surface deep, explore the lives of five first year university students navigating their journey into adulthood. Harrison’s missing ‘Cheese’ peels back the layers of each character's story, creating a heartfelt narrative that challenges perceptions of university life.  ‘Cheese’ reminds us that sometimes, understanding, empathy and friendship can emerge from the unlikeliest of sources, even missing cheese.

A message from the cast

"The idea of ‘Cheese’ came to our writer Lucy Andrews who wanted to compose a narrative that’s relatable to young adults around our age. Shedding light on moments that many of us have experienced in our time whilst at university. This company is passionate about making entertaining theatre that has an underlying serious tone to it.  If anything were to come out of this piece, we should hope it spreads the message ‘to be kind’ as you never realise what people are genuinely going through in their lives. This piece can be relatable for audience members of any age category; however, we do want to acknowledge the younger members as it also evaluates the university system and we hope we are able to help them to decide on the correct pathway for them."
