How To Be an Adult (asking for a friend...)

Written by Amy Walsh

Are you scared of growing up? Do you like to see people doing worse than you so you can feel better about your own issues? Most importantly, are you struggling with the fact that you have to book your own dentist appointment?

‘How To Be An Adult (asking for a friend…)’ is an original one act musical that follows a group of friends, who are legally adults but mentally... not quite there yet. Willow already has to struggle with  a disability, but now she’s facing a full quarter life crisis. Her closest friends (and Tim) try to be there for her, but Willow isn’t the only one finding being a grown-up hard.

The musical asks the questions can their friendships stand the test of time while they keep growing up in different directions? And will Willow ever go to the doctor by herself? A story about outgrowing the world you’ve known and finding your feet as ‘a grown up’.

(Maturity not guaranteed).

A message from the cast

"How to Be An Adult (asking for a friend…) was written with the goal of exploring the growth from teenage angst to terrified legal adult, with each character having their own personal take on what it means to be an Adult. I believe, as the writer, I can provide a different perspective as a young disabled person and want to ensure that the musical focuses on genuine human connections and behaviours.

The cast is unbelievably talented and have really brought so much life to the story and characters on an unprecedented level. They really have done a fantastic job of understanding each individual character and making them into something unique and personal. Every person who has contributed to this show has proved why its important to value the people in your life who are willing to help and support you, in whatever way you need- you’ll definitely enjoy watching these talented people bring the story to life."
